Working with the Community
Consumer Education
Hitachi Capital provides information to consumers in partnership with the government and other
outside entities. Our commitment to informing the consumer includes a program that has sent
employees certified as consumer lifestyle advisors to community classes held by local governments
since the end of 2000. Hitachi Capital employees also conduct classes in high schools and
universities.
In 2002, Hitachi Capital's publication "Do you know? The Consumer Contract Act" won
first place in the Consumer Education Educational Materials Competition, which is conducted
by the National Institute on Consumer Education.

The Environment
Hitachi Capital is helping to conserve forests. In 1992, we were among the first to join the
Japanese Forestry Agency's "Corporate Forest" program. We next created an employee
Environmental Volunteer Club, which provides opportunities for planting and caring for trees,
forest beautification, and environmental education. Employees are also becoming involved
in other activities, including restoring forests around the base of Mt. Fuji and conducting
coastal beautification and cleanup campaigns.
We are firmly committed to supporting the volunteer activities of our employees.

Social Welfare
In 1992, we began using the paintings of disabled artists in the visuals of our business reports,
pamphlets and other marketing materials. We are working in other ways as well to support disabled
artists and increase the popularity of their work. One example is the Hitachi Capital Special
Award, which has been given to a deserving artist at the "Artbility Award" (Disabled
People's Art Bank) ceremony each year since 1998.
Since 1995, we have sold products from SELP (self-help) shops (vocational aid centers), made
by individuals with disabilities working toward independence, through our cardholder magazine.
We also offer emergency supplies and aid in times of disaster. The company is active at the
employee level as well, holding workplace fundraisers and conducting prepaid card and stamp
collection drives through our internal newsletter for employees.
